of a fully-integrated virtual desktop. The web-based
service, called MagicalDesk.com (www.magicaldesk.com),
is now available online to users for free. Leveraging
the power of the Internet, MagicalDesk.com allows
users to work virtually anywhere. MagicalDesk includes
a file management system, synchronization feature,
email, calendar, address book, to do list and Internet
bookmarks.

the web just a search engine or email box. With MagicalDesk.com,
users can create and customize their own personal
work space on the web."
MagicalDesk.com provides web-based access to integrated
personal productivity applications that can be tailored
for personal use. The technology goes beyond web-based
email to offer a web-based file access system that
is both private and secure. Integrated support for
common document file formats empowers the user to
work from any PC, Mac, Unix, Web-TV or kiosk, and
still access all of his files, email, and Internet
bookmarks -- even when the user doesn’t have the right
application (such as MS Word, PowerPoint or Lotus
1-2-3) on the machine that he is using.
An Integrated Suite
Essential for communication and collaboration,
the MagicalDesk.com web-based email is the centerpiece
of the integrated suite. The email system supports
the standard SMTP and POP3 Internet protocol, allowing
it to be used as a front end to multiple email accounts.
Emails can easily be converted into MagicalDesk to-do
items or calendar events. Users can easily transfer
files from their "hard" desktop to their MagicalFiles
or vice versa. Additionally, the email system is designed
to support multi-lingual email communications.
The MagicalFiles document management system allows
users to copy, move, backup or share documents created
with desktop applications. File synchronization features
ensure users will have the most recent files either
at home, at work or at a remote office. Users can
activate the MagicalViewer HTML converter with a click
of their mouse to view any of the 250 supported file
formats.
Customization
The MagicalDesk.com layout and features
are easily customizable. Users can personalize their
desktop with their favorite Internet search engines
like Yahoo and Excite, personal book finder from Amazon.com,
or work calendar. Users can also write their own HTML
codes to create new tools for their environment.
The Basic Service
The free MagicalDesk.com service includes
a personal file system; synchronization feature to
ensure that files and Internet bookmarks are consistent
on whatever machine that is used; calendar system
that can be kept private or shared with others; address
book; to-do list; Internet bookmarks, five megabytes
of storage space and one POP email account.
Premium Services
MagicalDesk.com offers several premium
services, including:
- Additional storage
space (20MB for $5.00 per month; 50MB for $10.00
per month)
- A Magical Viewer
which translates more than 250 file formats into
HTML code so that users can view documents, even
when they don’t have the right application on
the computer that they are using ($5.00 per month/3-month
free trial period)
- 5 additional POP
accounts ($10 per month)
Security Features
MagicalDesk.com gives users complete
control over their business information by providing
password protection. Tough controls like the industry
standard SSL protection allow users to extend their
work into the Internet securely; SSL is one of the
most advanced Internet encryption systems available,
and is used by most major online shops. Optional virus
control and regular backup services are also available.
MagicalDesk.com also offers a special feature to clear
the cache on whatever machine a user is working on
each time the user logs off of his account. This eliminates
any concern that someone will access a document or
email once a user has finished using a particular
computer.
Recommended System
MagicalDesk.com works best with Microsoft
Windows 95, 98, or NT; Apple Macintosh OS; or a Unix
environment. Recommended browsers include Microsoft
